This workshop blends adventure with purpose—led by world-renowned photographer and filmmaker Chris Burkard, along with a curated team of guest instructors and industry professionals.
Whether you're a filmmaker, photographer, or writer, this workshop will challenge your craft and deepen your narrative instincts through hands-on experiences in one of the most iconic desert landscapes on Earth.

How to create compelling character and narrative arcs
What makes a story worth investing in?
The art of pitching: get your film or project funded
Feedback on your work from editors, filmmakers, and brand partners
1-on-1 portfolio reviews with Chris and team
Workshop Format
Each day includes a mix of outdoor adventures, in-field shooting, guided sessions, and fireside conversations that bring storytelling to life.
Sample Flow:
Mornings – Adventure-based activity or field shoot
Afternoons – Workshop sessions, group critiques, writing exercises
Evenings – Guest speaker talks, open Q&A, stargazing and astrophotography
Potential Activities
Depending on the group's interest and conditions, we’ll explore:
Astrophotography
Easy, moderate, or challenging desert hike
Highline + slackline photo session
Mountain biking or e-bike group ride (vendor support possible)
Bouldering & group top-rope climbs (with a certified guide)
Story-driven photo assignments at golden hour
GEAR TO BRING
Recommend but not required gear to bring in order to get the most out of the workshop:
DSLR/Mirrorless Camera body with at least one lens
Laptop computer for note taking or pen and notebook
Hard drive or USB thumb drive with a selection of your favorite images
Warm jackets, sturdy shoes, and adventure-ready clothing
Who This Is For
This is an intermediate-level workshop for those with some creative experience—whether in filmmaking, photography, or writing—who are ready to push their storytelling deeper. You don't need to be a pro, but you should come with a desire to explore, share, and challenge yourself.
